Peter Pek has worked on a wide variety of publications around the world
Peter was a columnist for Sydney-based Livewire magazine from 1987 to 1989. In 1994, he worked on the design for Microsoft magazine and SkyPlus magazine for Sky TV. In 1995, he was appointed designer to The Voice newspaper – Eurpore’s largest Afro-Carribean publication.
He was the chief Creative Director responsible for the launch of New Nation newspaper, a British tabloid from a company of Elizabeth Murdoch in 1996. From 1997-1999, Peter worked with The Guardian and The Observer newspapers on a project basis. He was also the Creative Director of Galazee magazine for Zee TV.
He was appointed Editor-in-Chief of Food & Beverage magazine from 1999 to 2000. Based in Manila, it is the largest trade and consumer F&B publication in the Phillippines.
In 2001, Peter brought the Superbrands project to Malaysia. It was here in 2002, that he co-edited and published the hugely successful coffee table, hardcover book, “Superbrands: An Insight Into More Than 80 of Malaysia’s Strongest Brands”, ISBN 983-40878-0-2.
Peter has also published papers on branding which have been presented at conferences and workshops around the world. Currently, he is working on several articles on brand strategy and management.
In 2007, Peter appeared in The Firm, Malaysia’s first corporate reality television series produced by Popiah Pictures and ntv7. Hosted by Peter and Chan Boon Yong, the show was directed by award-winning director Ng Ping Ho of Kopitiam fame.
In The Firm, a group of professionals compete in an elimination-style competition to find the next corporate high-flyer. The show attempts to separate the weak from the strong, the under-achievers from the over-achievers, and the followers from the leaders. Only the strongest will survive.
Each week, candidates compete in a series of tasks dealing with different business disciplines, that are imperative to the success of a corporate professional. Some of these include branding, public relations, promotions, and catering to target markets.
Peter was the first person on national television to use the show’s catch phrase, “You’re terminated!”. The show premiered prime time nationwide on ntv7 and Astro Channel 7 on 24 June 2007. The Firm Season 2 premiered on ntv7 and Astro Channel 7 on 2 August 2008.
The first branding talk show on radio
Peter Pek was the first to host a branding and podcasting talk show in Malaysia.
On 1 January 2008, he began hosting his own branding talk show, Brand Malaysia with Peter Pek on Radio24. The show was the first radio branding talk show in Malaysia. The show began podcasting episodes through the show’s website in March 2008, making him one of the few Chief Executives in Asia and the first in Malaysia, to podcast.
Broadcasting on the 93.9FM frequency, Radio24 is the first and only 24-hour news and talk radio station in Malaysia. The station broadcasts domestic, regional dna world news through hourly news bulletins, half-hourly news highlights and breaking news, as and when they happen, through live coverage and cross-overs. The station also has an array of talk shows. It also airs at frequent intervals, traffic, weather and stock market reports. The station also provides live audio streaming through its website.
